Bicentennial Program - "Elyria's Hungarian Neighborhood and Its Settlement House"
September 7

Judith J. Friedman, an urban sociologist, returned to her hometown to speak about Western Heights, one of the city’s historic, ethnic neighborhoods at the Lorain County History Center, 284 Washington Avenue, Elyria. Dr. Friedman spoke about life in the neighborhood before 1950, the treatment of immigrants, and the creation of the local settlement house. This free program was attended by approximately 65 people, with several bringing original material about Western Heights' history to be scanned for Dr. Friedman's research and to be added to the society's collection.
