For Seniors From Seniors

As the class of 2020 high school seniors prepare to take a new step in life’s journey, there may be apprehension as they experience the last weeks of their schooling to date in quarantine. At the same time, much of our senior citizen population is feeling disconnected and isolated as they must be apart from loved ones.

To bring these two groups together, the Lorain County Historical Society, Lorain Historical Society, and Oberlin Heritage Center have partnered to develop a community outreach program called “For Seniors from Seniors.” We are looking for high schoolers interested in writing a letter to a senior citizen, sharing plans for after commencement, feelings about entering the world as an adult, and hopes for their futures. In turn, we are asking senior citizens to write letters of what life was like when they were graduating high school and offer words of encouragement and support to our graduates. To participate, high school seniors are asked to send letters by May 31, 2020. Then we will match these students with a senior citizen to receive a return letter.
