Research Requests

The Library Research Service (LRS) is offered by the LCHS to assist those outside the greater Cleveland/Elyria area who cannot visit the Library to conduct their own research. This service is on a fee cost basis of $12.00 per hour. If copies are requested please include an extra $5.00 to cover all copies and postage. Our research specialist will evaluate your information and formulate a research strategy. An LRS contact will advise you of any estimated cost beyond one hour.

To utilize this service, please complete the Library Research Authorization and Information Sheet. This form is designed to help our staff evaluate and answer your request effectively. Please complete all items and send a $12.00 (one hour) deposit with your request to the following address:

Lorain County Historical Society
284 Washington Ave
Elyria, OH 44035
440-322-3341

For further information contact LRS at library@lchs.org.

All requests will be processed in the order they were received. If you have a substantial research project in mind, we may be able to get you in touch with a private researcher.

Every effort will be made to locate the information you request in our archives. Even if no information is found, it will still be necessary to pay for the research carried out.

Note to genealogical researchers: Please return a Five Generation Pedigree Chart with your LRS information sheet or as many generations as you have.
