The Women's Association is composed of dedicated women members of the Lorain County Historical Society. We are committed to using our talents, energies and skills to help fulfill the mission of the Lorain County Historical Society, which is to collect, preserve, interpret and present the history of Lorain County. The Women's Association currently pledges $4,000 annually towards the general operation expenses of the Society and we also provide for various special projects. Funds are raised through the Holiday Wreath Sale and the Bakeless Bake Sale. We enjoy visits to cultural sites and museums in Ohio such as the Gwin Estate in Bratenahl, the Hayes Museum in Fremont, Victorian Perambulator Museum, Kent State Museum, Spirit of '76 in Wellington, Historic Lyme Village, Shaker Museum in Shaker Heights, Carousel Museum in Sandusky, plus luncheons and visits to tea rooms. Carpooling is always available and the Association pays members' educational site admission. Education is important to us; many members conduct tours, help in the office, do conservation on the museum's collections, help in the gardens and assist with educational programs. We are host to a book study group called "Off Campus Studies" available to us through Case Western Reserve University. We have read and discussed in classes books about the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Reconstruction, George Washington, Henry Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and Thomas Jefferson. We have discussed books ranging from Charles Dickens to Dan Brown. These discussion groups are open to all. There is a fee for the classes. Our fall class will begin in October, 2009, held always on Tuesdays; the book to be discussed this Fall is The Human Story, Our History from the Stone Age to Today by James C. Davis. The book is available from Borders Express, and also can be reserved at the Elyria Public Library. New members are always welcome to join our Women's Association. We invite anyone who is interested in our Association to attend one of our meetings and get to know our members. Meetings are held at the Hickories at 10:00 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Annual dues are only $10.00 in addition to your LCHS membership. We look forward to meeting you.
