Guided Tours: Meet the Garfords

Since The Hickories Museum closed in mid-March, we have been excitedly anticipating the day when we could safely reopen to the public. The staff at the Lorain County Historical Society has been working hard while the museum has been closed to develop a reopening plan that has the health and safety of visitors as its top priority. The reopening of the museum has been done in a manner that is consistent with the best-practice standards in the environmental health and safety field and follows guidelines set forth by both state and federal agencies.

WHAT TO EXPECT

While we are excited to welcome you back to the museum, it is important to note that your next visit will look different to any previous trips to The Hickories.

Before you arrive, please know that a reservation must be made in advance to tour the house through LCHS's Eventbrite page. Tours are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM and take approximately 45 minutes. Tours are limited to groups of six or fewer individuals, from the same self-defined/family group.

These changes are in place to encourage social distancing and mitigate the spread of germs. In addition, visitors are required to wear face coverings when at the museum (some exceptions apply).

Before and after every visit staff will be cleaning and disinfecting surfaces such as handrails and counters and floor markers are in place to help maintain a 6 ft physical distance between visitors and the docent.

Please note that The Hickories has steps to access its interior spaces. The museum does not have an elevator or a ramp.

With so many changes taking place, you may have some questions about your upcoming visit. We are happy to answer your questions! Please contact us at lchs@lchs.org or (440) 322-3341.
